Charitable Projects
Ever since its inception Freemasonry has been concerned with the service to poor,needy, sick and the aged persons .This philosophy and the work continues even today . With the same purpose in mind ,on 15th.March 1984, the brethren of Lodge Ganges launched a charitable society, named as “Ganges Masonic Charitable Society “ (G.M.C.S.) under W.Bro.Mohan Chand Kapoor as its first president . It was duly registered under the Society Registration Act of U.P. The basic aim of the society is to provide relief to human being from diseases by providing medical help ( pathological tests, medicines, x-ray, etc.) , monitory assistance and food . At present , masons from all the Lodges of Kanpur are actively involved in working of this society .
Some of the Important Social Projects Undertaken by G.M.C.S. in the recent past are :
1. It has organized Four medical assessment camps with the help of ALIMCO ( a unit of Govt. of India) during the last five years for handicapped persons . Tricycles , Crutches , Hearing aids and Wheel Chairs were distributed to more than two thousand patients in September 2004, November 2005, February 2007 & February 2009 Camps .
2. Medical and Dental camp was organized on 16th.April 2005 with the help of Rama Dental and Medical College in which free medicines was distributed .
3. Food packets were distributed in all the camps under the Dhan Dhanya scheme .
4. Yoga Exercise and Medical checkup camp on the doctrine of Swamy Ram Deo was organized on 17th. September for one week which was attended by more than 500 person.
5. On 1st.December 2005 an AIDS awareness camp was organized on the eve of Worlds Aid’s Day with CHARCA an U.N. sponsored Organization .
6. An Eye Camp alongwith Rotary Club was organized on 14th.November 2008 in which eye testing and cataract operation was done at R.K.Devi Hospital.
Beside above camps G.M.C.S. has been organizing number of distribution programmes of woolen cloths , school materials & scholarships to children , monetary help for medical treatment and food on regular basis to needy ones . In the coming months more such camps are being organized.
